Intelligent Power Modules (IPMs)

onsemi Intelligent Power Modules (IPMs) are highly integrated solid-state power switches integrating gate-drive circuitry based on IGBTs or MOSFETs in a single module. IPMs also include protection for power systems from issues such as short circuits, under voltages, and extreme temperatures. IPMs using 600V IGBTs are used in consumer and industrial applications for driving fans, pumps, and compressors. IPMs using 40V and 80V MOSFETs are increasingly used in automotive applications to drive electric fans and pumps.

According to the 2020 Motor System Market Analysis (MSMA), published by the US Department of Energy (DOE), industrial pumps and drives annually consume almost 15% of the total US grid. The 2020 MSMA also estimates that 32.3 million metric tons of CO2 emissions can be saved annually using VFDs. onsemi manufactures a broad range of VFD semiconductor components, including gate drivers, MOSFETs, IGBTs, and EliteSiC.

NFVA35065L32 Automotive Smart Power Rectifier

onsemi NFVA35065L32 Automotive Smart Power Rectifier is an advanced Automotive Smart Power Module (ASPM) that offers a high-performance inverter output stage for hybrid and electric vehicles. This ASPM comes with separate negative IGBT terminals for each phase that support a wide variety of control algorithms. The 3-phase 650V and 50A rectifier integrates an optimized gate drive of the built-in IGBTs to minimize EMI and losses. The NFVA35065L32 rectifier also provides multiple on-module protection features including under-voltage lockout, over-current shutdown, thermal monitoring of the drive IC, and fault reporting. Typical applications include automotive high-voltage auxiliary motors such as climate e-compressors, oil/water pumps, and super/turbochargers.
