Mouser-Sponsored Vasser Sullivan Lexus Team Wins GTD Class at IMSA Detroit Grand Prix
June 8, 2022 – Mouser Electronics, Inc., the authorized global distributor with the newest semiconductors and electronic components, congratulates the Vasser Sullivan Lexus Racing team on their first P1 finish of the 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. On the temporary street circuit at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix, Ben Barnicoat and Kyle Kirkwood piloted the No. 17 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 to victory in the GTD class, with Aaron Telitz and Frankie Montecalvo delivering a fourth-place finish in the No. 12 car.
After qualifying in the pole position, Kirkwood remained in second place for just under half the race, using a strategic pit stop to hand the driving to Barnicoat. Leading 43 of the 73 laps, Barnicoat nabbed the checkered flag to earn the team’s first win of the season as well as his and Kirkwood’s first career IMSA victories.
“Belle Isle is a bumpy and tightly packed proving ground, and the entire team showed the skill and strategy they’re known for in an exciting, down-to-the-wire race,” said Todd McAtee, Vice President, Americas Business Development for Mouser Electronics.
Mouser is teaming up with Molex LLC to sponsor both the No. 12 and No. 17 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 GTD Class and the No. 14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 GTD PRO Class entries for the 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.
Mouser previously sponsored the Vasser Sullivan IndyCar team, seeing the opportunity as an inventive way to communicate its performance-driven business model and promote the newest technologies; since then, the Mouser and Molex relationship with Vasser Sullivan has bred success, having won the Indianapolis 500 and producing multiple wins and podiums with Vasser Sullivan IndyCar.
The 2022 season marks the fourth season Lexus and Vasser Sullivan have partnered together. During that time, the Lexus RC F GT3 has earned seven GTD class wins, 18 podiums and nine pole positions.
The next race will take place in Watkins Glen, New York, for Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen on June 26, followed by four more races before the finale at Motul Petit Le Mans on October 1 in Atlanta.
